A King so Cold
by Ella Fields
2 - ⭐️⭐️
"I was the queen of the Moon Kingdom, and blood drown the entire continent before I allowed anyone to steal what was rightfully mine."
I think a more fitting title would be A Queen So Irritating rather than A King So Cold because it's clear as day that the King is anything but cold.
I usually consider books an antidote to whatever ails me in real life, this one particularly left me with a throbbing headache and I developed deep hatred for the word "seed".
As for the reason why and what's wrong with Seed, I leave that to your imagination.
Can someone tell me what in the heck was that?
No, no, no... the writing was good and the premise was promising. I've read that this is the first time the author writes a fantasy so I won't be too critical of it.
But I'm sorry I have to say I'm frustrated by the constant state of confusion I was in for almost the entirety of the book.
"For a male with the sun running through his very veins, you truly are a cold-blooded creature."
"Says the cruelest Queen this land has ever seen."
This book is categorized as adult fantasy romance, but I have to add that this one does have a lot of sexy time that you'd question whether or not you are reading an erotica, fortunately I was relieved to see that's not the case.
As for the romance, you'd assume from the premise that it would have a enemies-to-lovers kind of romance and to be honest that what drew me to the book. The romance, if I'd even call it that, was a cluster. There a whole lot of push-and-pull, lust and random sexual encounters. I have nothing against sexy time, I actually enjoy it when physical intimacy becomes an expression of something... this one was just frustrating.
I don't know if it was intentional, but the characters stepped on my every last nerve to the point I was looking forward to finishing the book and parting with them and never looking back.
I don't know maybe awfully cruel characters are not my cup of tea. But I do not think that is the case.
Let me just summarize it in a few words:
The Book Suffered From Inconsistency
Inconsistent plot
Inconsistent characterization
Inconsistent world-building
The fantastical elements in the book were intriguing but it felt like the author thrust them around randomly making the fantasy aspect of the book feel forced rather than flesh them out and give time for the reader to digest all that is going on.
There were a lot of things that I kept on trying to hold on to and process about this world but I couldn't and it frustrated me to no end.
This all could've been avoided if she left her damned amnesiac husband alone in his own little new world.
Unfortunately, I do not think I will read the sequel.
