It's Been a Pleasure, Noni Blake by Claire Christian

5.0

This book has literally made me want to YOLO ( do people even say that anymore) the heck out of my life! I can't express how much I loved this book. I was hooked from the first page. Noni is a plus size, bisexual woman in her late thirties. I love that Noni's weight wasn't used as something she should be ashamed of, and that this story of her finding herself didn't include loosing weight to see herself as worthy. There were times she felt very relatable; not only being plus sized, but also as woman in her late thirties and not being were she thought she would be in her life. This book is full of Noni trying to "find herself "; while doing that she ends up taking a 6 month hiatus from work where she takes a vacation ("pleasure quest") where she sees a few old friends, meets some new lifelong friends, has some solo adventures in a new country and ends up having multiple sexual partners. So for that reason I will say that originally I wasn't convinced that this was a romance, I thought for sure it was more women's fiction, but in the end I would say it is a romance. Not really a spoiler IMO but Noni does find someone, and this book does end in a happily ever after/happy for now. I really liked the side characters, and Noni's love interest, and I loved watching her journey/pleasure quest. I laughed out loud so many times reading this book, but there are definetly some heavy topics discussed. Some trigger warning include body shaming, miscarriage, death of a "friend", and infertility.
