Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found by Suketu Mehta

5.0

Maximum City - This book should be a starting point for anyone who wants to understand how Mumbai came to be. Why Mumbai and all its confusing, loud, interconnected, tedious infrastructure are the way they are. This book is no less than a love letter written by the author Suketu Mehta to the city. It explains the different circumstances that were taking place in Mumbai in different decades from 70s to the 90s and the mafia raaj that ruled Mumbai's masses. Stories of a shooter living in Jogeshwari, the writers own stuggles to live and survive while interviewing people from different walks of life in the city and the story of a bar dancer and told non linearly. All in all this book captures the very soul of Mumbai and the spirit that drives every Mumbaikar. Definitely read this book to get to know the Maximum City.
