Joker by Brian Azzarello

3.0

Rating: 3.5

This was my 1st graphic novel experience, and i do not regret that this was what i read 1st. The art is appropriately dirty looking, almost like it is bloated with filth. The dull, muted color splashes and scheme is very much creepy and chill-inducing. it also made the characters and atmosphere come to life by reflecting their slummy settings and corrupted souls. the story is all around strange, told in an extremely unexpected, painfully random and yet completely intriguing point of view, and the villain interpretations are quite different but rather accurate. The joker himself is portrayed as an utterly insane psychopath in the very worst meaning of the word. His senseless bloodlust and need to cause chaos and pain is on every panel. He is very much like Heath ledger in his portrayal in THE DARK KNIGHT-- so much so that he actually looks like him in the novel. Which is fascinating considering his performance was so dynamic--i figured it would be difficult to correlate it onto paper. But as i have steadily read more and more graphic novels, i have found that i love some of them slightly better than this one...so i had to shave this one down from 4 stars to 3.5 because i had to stay true to myself and y'all. :D enjoy!
