The Chestnut Man by Søren Sveistrup
5.0
So let me start out this review by saying. "WOW"! The Chestnut Man had me on the edge of my seat almost the entire time. There are places in the story where the action dips, but don't worry, there's plenty to come in the pages ahead of you. The low action parts didn't loose my interest because you want to learn about the story and characters to try and piece the puzzle together. Even though this is a seemingly hefty book, the super short chapters keep you flipping the pages.
The Chestnut Man is an amazing thrilling ride into the dark eerie world of a serial killer, and not just any serial killer, this man is brutal. There are scenes of gore and torture, but don't let that scare you away. I wasn't sure about the police procedural part of this going in, I quickly became a fan. The action starts in the very first chapter with a gruesome murder scene. I am not going to write very much about the plot and happenings of the story, I say go into this one blind! I didn't read much about this after my initial synopsis skimming when it was offered as a book of the month.
The Chestnut Man kept me guessing the whole time, I had multiple suspects in my mind. I definitely think you will be surprised by the whodunit in this book. I love the way everything was wrapped up, there was still more story after the reveal. This book is easily a top five for me for the year, I highly recommend picking this up if you think you can get past the gore and brutality.
