The Bane Chronicles by Sarah Rees Brennan, Cassandra Clare, Maureen Johnson

I'm not really entirely sure why I decided to read this book. I thought I might benefit from it before diving into the Dark Artifices but now I'm starting to think that it wasn't exactly needed. I enjoyed some of the stories but as a whole I just thought it was average.

The first couple of stories we probably could've gone without. A lot of the boring, unimportant stuff could've been cut out because it just made the story drag. The only thing these novella's were hanging off of was the nostalgia for people who had previously read and enjoyed The Infernal Devices trilogy. There were a lot of throwbacks to Will, Jem and Tessa which I really enjoyed. I loved seeing some of my favourite characters again but if I hadn't previously read The Infernal Devices I probably would've been incredibly bored. Another thing to point out is the fact that Tessa held Clary as a baby! Eeeekkk! I really, really did love that scene and how all the stories tie in is so clever. I loved all the references to Henry and Charlotte and also how Clary's last name, "Fray" was a combination of Fairchild and Gray. That I found really touching.

The only other thing I really took away from this collection was the story on Raphael. I was always intrigued with his character in The Mortal Instruments but we didn't really get to see him much. I really enjoyed learning more about his backstory and personality. He is adorably sarcastic and snarky and I immensely enjoyed his relationship with Magnus.

Another story that I did actually like was the one where Magnus and Alec go on their first date. I forgot how blunt and innocent Alec was and combined with Magnus's sassiness it was great. Also the voicemails were actually the best thing ever. I was laughing out loud the whole time and it reminded me of how much I actually like these characters. Izzy and Simon though XD

Over all this was a good collection for nostalgic purposes and if you're a fan of Magnus Bane. I did enjoy some parts but over all a lot of the stories were just lacking in plot and weren't really holding my attention. Hopefully I'll enjoy Tales of the Shadowhunter Academy more :/

P.S. My favorite character by far was the slime demon in Magnus's apartment. My Spirit Animal XD
