I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai

4.0

Very good book for insight into life as a young girl in Pakistan. Highly recommend for young readers, as a way to gain appreciation for the luxuries and freedoms we take for granted in our country. Honestly, I believe the credit for Malala's strong stance for education should be given to her father. He was extremely progressive in actively promoting and providing education for all children, and especially girls. In a culture where girls are not valued the same as boys, this man not only loved and educated his daughter but also supported all her endeavors. It took great courage to publicly speak against the traditionalists of Pakistan. He never relented, despite the dangers to himself. Now that his beloved daughter has beaten death, he still fights for education from afar while being persecuted by many of his own countrymen. I own the audio version but plan to get the print version.
