Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center
3.0
In a reading slump? Just finished a really heavy read? This is a quick, light read. Fairly predictable, but a feel good story none the less.
Cassie is a strong no-nonsense firefighter who flew up the ranks in an Austin, Tx firehouse. Until one evening when she comes face to face with her teenage past. She ends up moving halfway across the country with the mother than abandoned her; and is faced with a new job in a firehouse stuck in the 1950s regarding women being firefighters. “Basically I need to be asexual, androgynous, human robot that’s dead to all physical and emotional sensation?” — Insert the rookie Owen here.
