I think I would’ve enjoyed this a bit more if I considered John Keats the most incredible human being in the history of mankind like Simmons seems to think.
I jumped straight from Hyperion to this and I felt like some momentum was lost with this slow start. The second Keats character frustrated me for a while, but the conversations with Ummon are wonderful and the high point of the book for me.
This series has SUCH a massive scope and so much build-up that I had serious doubts that it would stick the landing. But it did. It’s a genuinely satisfying ending, to the point where I have no urge to jump into the Endymion novels yet.
