Normal People by Sally Rooney

So I see that either this book is a hit or a miss. Unfortunately for me, it's a MISS but I do not hate it entirely. I listened to the audiobook and didn't have to suffer about the missing quotations marks in the written novel, but it really makes me question why people do that? What do they benefit from it?

Anyway, there are a lot of things that are redeeming about this book. Like how it feels so real at some points. It was literally like a legit slice of life and we are reading about Connell and Marianne's lives over the years and how their relationship continued to evolve in different circumstances. So I guess the title made sense because these two characters could be easily found in your social circle and could possibly be going through the same thing.

The issue about the difference in social classes, I don't think it was highlighted that much here in the book. The thing that I was annoyed most about is the number of times that the leads had to be separated when clearly they are drawn to each other and they could have lived happily ever after a little bit sooner. But of course, we are no longer going to get a story if that happened. Hence, I felt like this book had been dragged on and on.

The writing is simply beautiful in my opinion. I get why people love this book but this is not exactly my cup of tea. I rooted for the characters but it got old before we even reach the ending.

Read at your own risk. You either love or hate this.
