Regarding the Pain of Others by Susan Sontag

dark medium-paced

2.5

This book is more of a collection of observations tethered to very little. It’s a lilting conversation at best, a run around at worst. There are small pieces of this book that pose questions that make you, the reader consider your position but it does not challenge or change you in a meaningful way.

My main take away from this is a line about how the difference between an erotic image and a tragedy is whether we find the corpse attractive. I hadn’t really considered that in the context of atrocity photography but it will be something I think of now.
