Sandworms of Dune by Kevin J. Anderson, Brian Herbert

3.0

If you read Hunters of Dune, I can't really see how you'd be surprised by anything that happens in this book. There is one bit near that end that was totally obvious, but the red herrings that Herbert tries to throw the reader off the scent aren't quite convincing enough to work. Comparing this only to Brian Herbert's other main series Dune book, I'd say I liked it a little bit more, if only because it actually has an ending. The ending itself is fine and makes sense from a storytelling perspective, but it also feels a little incongruous with Dune's whole philosophy. Oddly enough, by the end of it I actually wished that Brian Herbert had done a whole series instead of just these two books. There is so much going on because these two books basically repeat the entire series thus far by bringing back all of the old characters, plus a few new ones. It's just so much.
