Freddy Goes to Florida by Walter Rollin Brooks

So charming, so fun! The animals have such distinct and entertaining personalities, and there's enough peril to keep the tension up but not enough to make the story stressful. This is great sick day reading material -- just makes you feel cozy inside. Freddy doesn't really emerge as the star in this book -- all of the animals have an opportunity to shine. I was particularly fond of Mr. and Mrs. Webb (the spiders) and Mrs. Wiggins (the cow). I'd argue that Mr. Webb is the unsung hero of the story.

I'd recommend this one as a read-aloud for young kiddos, and as a good selection for lower-elementary students who are reading above grade level. :)
