Trouble in the Green Lands by J. Houser

5.0

Book one is fabulous. We are introduced to the important aspects of the worlds involved and meet a collection of characters that are captivating and interesting. Book one is awesome. It's wonderful. It's essential. It sets the stage for what's to come next.
What comes next?
Well, book two of course!
We get to see more of the world and to learn about the Ivy side of things. There were so many times when I looked up from the page and thought wow - I did NOT see that coming!
It's like going down a river and book two turns into rapids... the excitement picks up and carries us along rapidly through the plot BUT not so fast that we don't get to pay full attention to the scenery.
I remain impressed by some of the narrative style choices - we change POV within a short space of time/room but its done smoothly and feels natural to me. I found this really enjoyable. I like to know everything so being able to see a situation literally from more than one person's mind made me very happy.
I feel like book one is an orange. I have the orange. I love the orange. I embrace the orange. But then book two... peels the orange and now I have all the pieces and my mind is blown and I'm left thinking - Oh, I like this so much more now!
Seriously looking forward to book three!
This is such an incredible world full of wonder and intrigue and secrets and questions and spies and assassins and mistaken identities and secret identities... and yet it's in a style that welcomes you in and gets you comfortable for the ride :)
Highly recommend to all!
