3.5 stars. The first half of the book was really great but the second half dissolved into a strange babble about Kitty's 'spiritual awakening', and it just seemed very superficial and unbelievable. Yes, she did learn some things about herself and life in general, but there was no real change in her character. I think I understand what Maugham wanted to achieve but the book was simply too short to do that in any real depth.
