I picked this up for one of my modules on science-fiction writing and fell in love with Octavia Butler and her writing style. This was the perfect introduction to the genre and I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. There’s hints at sociopolitics throughout this story that I adored in other books such as the hunger games yet Butler does something so clever with her spellbinding and thought provoking prose. A solid four star read
