2034: A Novel of the Next World War
by James Stavridis, Elliot Ackerman
This short novel is probably more interesting for its authors than for its content. Admiral Stavridis is a former commander of NATO and Elliot Ackerman is a decorated former combat Marine. I was interested to see what they would come up with together, and what we got was pretty good, but thin and light. The story reads like a Command school exercise... what if China develops a devastating technology superiority over the US and decides to take advantage of it. The twists and turns were not exactly predictable, but perhaps expected. The story ended up being entertaining and the authors were able to create some reasonable characters. If you like Clancy, you will probably like this book.
