I haven't been so immediately engrossed in the start of a fantasy series in a long time!! This book is proof that you don't always need 700 pages to establish a world and create compelling characters. I felt so invested in Khalil and Zikora's stories, and the other POVs were used smartly to move the story along when needed. I wish book 2 was out now because I can't wait to know what happens next!
