Short Review: Oh, Marieke Nijkamp. What can I even say?

I'm usually a fan of mystery thrillers, even the most cliché ones. But this was just raw chicken bland. The plot is extremely empty, with the only interesting aspect being their LARP game. But we only spend 5 chapters in their LARP game. The rest is just...okay. It follows the formula of people get murdered, group tries to leave house, killer reveals themselves last minute, group kills killer, group goes home. The killer, which is one of the important parts, couldn't even save this story because I guess who it was before even touching the book. There is no thrill, there is no mystery. It's just bland.

But what's even worse than a bad plot, is bad characters. I wish I could say they're simply okay. But it seems the theme of cardboard "diverse" characters are a theme within Nijkamp's books. I hated reading every page, no matter the POV, because the only thing this group knew how to do right was shit all over each other. The ONLY characters that I ever gave a damn about was Carter, which seemed to be the groups punching bag. And Maddie, who was the only round dynamic character there. That's it.

Very formulaic, very boring. But at worst, just a waste of time.
