Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller

4.0

So the last page of my copy is stained with tears, and I think that alone tells you enough. Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman is tragedy of the modern man, and I think that's really important for people nowadays to see themselves in these characters and learn from the characters actions. Maybe we aren't all the same, but we don't have to in order to see the importance of this book and relate to the characters. You don't have to like it. I've seen several reviewers on Goodreads who really hate this book, apparently. But I think the point of the book is to show you that you don't have to be special or different for your own tragedy to matter. It also shows you that you shouldn't force yourself to conform to expectations that people have for you because sometimes it just doesn't fit you. In one part, the main character's son Biff says that his father didn't know himself, and that was why he was so depressed. Death of a Salesman might not be your favorite book, but it at least can teach you something.
