Poisoned by Jennifer Donnelly

UGH WHY!?!!?

I absolutely adore Jennifer Donnelly's writing. She has such magic with her words and her books are filled with incredible characters and storylines.

This retelling of Snow White had such creativity. Her heart was cut out and instead replaced with a clock. The impending winding down of the clock, the cast of characters, the magical world, and also the "evil queen."

My biggest problem with this book is the length. There is SO much that should have been expanded upon or where the plot felt like it was going somewhere only to be left to fizzle out. The beginning too was incredibly hard to get into. There was so much thrown at us right off the bat. All the names, the setting, the motive. It was all a bit too fast. There was no real time to process it all or get invested.

I'd love to see this converted to a mini series where adequate time could be given to the characters and settings. Overall the premise and plot is enticing but the book itself (at least the entire first half) was dull and hard to get through.
