Confusing ass storyline + confusing ass metaphorically-dense writing = not good book. i asked for this book for my birthday two years ago and just now actually began reading it. I got it for the cover and the premise, both of which made me super intrigued, but then i literally could not get past the first chapter for two years. thats so bad. I could never figure out if the narrator was male or female? which sure it doesnt matter, but it was just added to the confusion. This feels like something I wouldve tried to write on wattpad when i was in the seventh grade tbh. i love figurative language, but the majority of this was so unnecessary for no reason dude. ALSO—if i ever read the word “lapped” in a book ever again, i will never pick up another 😭
