There were aspects of this book I really liked, but it just really kind of lost me after about 60% or so. I was still intrigued, but something just started to miss the mark.
I wanted to like Troy, but I really didn’t. I didn’t hate him, but he was really frustrating and hard to understand. Rebel/Hendrix was a great character, and def what Troy needed, but I kinda felt like he deserved more? Their relationship just didn’t fully hit for me like I was expecting it to in the beginning.
I did really love when Troy started referring to Rebel as Hendrix (his real name, not stage name) in his internal thoughts. It def showed how Troy regarded him and that change from him being Rebel, his fave pornstar to Hendrix, his friend, et. al. That part did really stick out to me, especially given my irritation with Troy as a character.
Also, rather annoyingly, there seems to be only smut scenes in the beginning halfish of the book. I don’t mind it not being constant smut, etc, but I didn’t like how we only really got to see the beginning ‘fk buddy’ style of their relationship. There were a few smaller scenes in the later parts of the book, but they just kind of felt disconnected from it. It def played into how choppy and undeveloped certain things felt.
Overall though, there’s lots of potential and I’m def intrigued by some of the other Ballsy Boys and their books. Hopefully the authors get into the groove of co-writing and future books fine tune some of the structural issues B1 had.
