When women’s magazine writer and struggling author, Stella Douglas, is commissioned to write a book about English cuisine, she embarks on a journey through the culinary delights of 1930s England. What she finds is oat cakes galore, eel recipes and opinions galore. She also meets the ever opinionated Freddie. But will she ever get over her best friend, Michael, choosing to marry another woman? And when her father decides to move in with her too, what will become of her career?

A lovely, cosy story for the most part, it is complete with male posturing, opinions reminiscent of Brexit (which Stella does not agree with!) and details of recipes of the early 20th century.
