I’m feeling 4.5 stars. What a story! Historical fiction has a way of surprising you, there’s just something about knowing it’s based on something that actually happened. I also love to read a story that’s told in order! It’s so nice to just fully immerse yourself in the tale. Strong female leads are also so encouraging. I can’t imagine having to endure everything she went through.
My main takeaway from this story is to choose your children’s guardians wisely because if you leave them orphaned they’re truly at their mercy. I imagine there are things you could put into place in this day and age that would protect them more than back in the sixteenth century but still!
