I wanted to read this book because I adore Elsie Silver. Plain and simple. Anything she writes, I’ll read. I have been waiting for a five-star read from her for a while in all three of her series that I'm currently reading, and I was not expecting it to be this book but holy cow. This review is just going to be a love confession about how much I love this book.
This book has two points of view. The first one is Tabitha Garrison, and she has always dreamed of her wedding day but not like this. Not looking into the eyes of the man who had betrayed her. But when her nephew’s guardianship is contested, she decided to do whatever it takes to keep him in Rose Hill even if it means marrying the enemy. The second point of view is Rhys Dupris and people don’t know about the other side of him and what he does for work. He met Tabitha when he rented his apartment to her sister and got a stern warning from her. For the past two years, Rhys has been wanting to see Tabitha again, but he had a friendship with her sister and her adorable child. So, when Erika dies suddenly and he is left as the sole custody of her child, and he is in a sticky situation. Tabitha sees Rhys as a man who is secretive, broody and completely infuriating. A man whose work takes him away for weeks on end and brings him back covered in mysterious bruises – ones he won’t talk about. In fact, they barely talk at all. Which would be fine, except when he’s not talking, he is staring. The tension between them has always been palpable. But living under the same roof is a dangerous temptation. Tabitha swore she would never forgive him. But that was before she knew the man behind the mask. The one who is fierce and protective. The one who is gentle and patient. The one who shows up for them when they need them most.
I loved this book. I love the main characters and how they manage to have discussions of grief especially with a young child losing his mother. I loved the storyline and was rooting for Tabitha from page one. The shit she went through, and she was so strong, and I adored her. I loved Rhys and how he wants people to trust him and for him to trust people before he opens up to people. I still love the bowling club and the guys instantly accepting Rhys but also telling him to be careful with Tabitha otherwise they would kill him and being so protective of Tabitha.
I will forever love dual POV in romance books, Rhys pining for Tabitha for two years and Tabitha is spending her whole time trying not to fall for him but can’t stop staring at his arse. I love that Rhys stood his ground with his work and even though Tabitha was like it’s work, just give me a heads up he did not want to kiss another woman that wasn’t her even though they weren’t together and wanting to break his contract so he didn’t have to kiss the co-worker, I love how they were open with each other once the barriers had been broken. My favourite chapter was Cora finding out that Rhys was her favourite wrestler and her just losing her damn mind over it. Plus, Rhys opening to the gang that he is a wrestler and not a stunt man or a porn star.
There was no third act break up and they communicated with each other and spent the last ten chapters giggling like a five-year-old and wanting to cry. I loved that the took her name because they wanted to honour Erica, I loved the ending, I loved Will and I hope we see more of him, I really hope this series doesn’t end after Wild Card because Will deserve his own book. I am so excited for Wild Card, I am sat, and it is going to be a very long time until September, but I can’t wait because it sounds messy as fuck.
