Absalom, Absalom! by William Faulkner

4.0

Father of peace, Father of peace! It is and always was the madness that shrouded the south, its phantom like horror echoes in its wake. Whose story is right? Is there continuity between the subjective accounts? The father’s design was the ultimate destruction, and yet the sins of Henry lingered in the house, and brew fire among their name. “I who regard you will also have sprung from the loins of African Kings”
The south has always been a ghostly land, and whether Quentin hates it or not, it does not matter because land hates itself. The inevitable downfall of Sutpen’s carefully crafted world has shattered by the oppressive nature of dreams, and his hellish heritage.
