First, this audiobook was incredibly well-narrated by Julia Whelan. Whelan did a fantastic job demonstrating the tone and highly emotional content of this memoir. I will absolutely be on the lookout for more memoirs narrated by her.
This story was heart-wrenching but also inspiring and very insightful. Westover had a highly challenging life growing up and even through her early 20’s. She went through a lot of family hardships, to say the least, and came out on the other side with a seemingly untenable resilience and still a positive outlook on life.
Be prepared to read this in short bursts, as the content can be considerably hard to process. The story deserves time and brain power to understand that this is the retelling of real lives and memories of real people, not just a fictional horror.
