The Mark of Athena
by Rick Riordan
"Percy looked at this friends."I'm getting tired of this guy's shirt."
"Combat time?" Piper grabbed her horn of plenty.
"I hate wonder bread," Jason said.
Together, they charged."
This book is for you if... you love the series and are a fan of pain.
This book to me felt like it had a major purpose in the series, and it definitely accomplished what I believe that purpose to be, bring the seven together. We finally got to see all of them together and it's great, seeing them learn to work as a team, especially Percy and Jason, was incredibly fun to read about. Percy being reunited with Annabeth has to be one of my favorite scenes in the whole book, the judo flip hilarious.
I do have some criticisms mostly centered on Jason and how he was written in this book. It seemed like he was being set up to be the Roman equivalent to Percy in The Lost Hero, but in The Mark of Athena he felt almost weak? It felt like he spent a majority of the book unconscious, at very convenient times in the story because with his powers some of the fights they had he could've ended rather quickly. Although this didn't really affect my reading very much since he wasn't one of the perspective characters in this book but if he had been it probably would've made it less enjoyable if that makes sense.
In regards to perspectives, I feel like we missed out on some great scenes not having Frank or Hazel's perspectives. I think some scenes that happened that we didn't see would've been more enjoyable the some we did get. On a positive note in talking about perspectives, I live for Annabeth's point of view, finally getting to see inside her mind and how she thinks is brilliant and I hope we get more of her perspective in the next books. I LOVED when she.
Once again I do need to praise Rick Riordan's writing for the comedic moments, because they always feel so naturally incorporated in. In other books I've read funny lines or witty comebacks can feel forced but I never have that problem with Rick Riordan.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, but like I said this book felt like it had a very specific purpose and while it accompanied that purpose in my mind, it also felt very transitional. It was a bit long for a transitional book though. I can't wait to pick up the next book though because that ending made me want to hit something but also it makes sense, I'm just glad it didn't feel forced. I definitely would recommend this to anyone who want to continue the series.

The ending made me feel things even when I knew it was coming.
