The Evidence Against You by Gillian McAllister

3.5

Izzy English’s father, the man who gave her a childhood filled with happy memories, was about to be released from jail after serving seventeen years for the murder of her mother. Now, he wanted to talk to Izzy, to claim his innocence and defend himself against each evidence. Was he not guilty, or was he dangerous and luring her into a trap?

The premise of this was good - I had a high expectation from the synopsis alone. Unfortunately, it had a very slow start. It took a very long time to get to the suspense. The whispery narration style was also not my preference. Not sure if it was due to production quality, but I had to listen hard even with the audio cranked up to maximum volume.

Having said all that, the ending made up for it. When Izzy finally got over her inner uncertainties, I finally felt a connection. I noted down that chapter 60 onwards finally hooked me, and the story turned into something I really enjoyed.
