I have sort of mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, I think Levy's overall narrative aim - to define raunch culture, show its historical roots, and analyze how it is manifesting in modern culture - was done really well. But she sometimes veered into areas that didn't really advance her narrative aim, like Chapter 4, which came off as definitely transphobic, possibly homophobic, and just didn't really fit with what I felt was her larger point, or the part of Chapter 6 where she relied on the myth that women who go into the adult entertainment industry have higher rates of childhood sexual assault, something that has been debunked (like in this study here that I found from a quick Google search). Both of these things, in my opinion, detracted from what was otherwise a really though-provoking analysis of raunch culture and its impacts.
