This Deceit of Ours by Shannon R. Lir

4.0

I didn't really give this book the the time it needed, but also I felt that it had a slow and winding start to the action (which is a bad combination for me as a reader). I honestly wonder if maybe that slow start was intentional because I was also starting to get impatient and antsy like the main character, Sersa.
Sersa's pretty badass. She's a strong female character who doesn't take any one's shit and calls other characters out on it. I loved it. Her powers are also wild and it makes for an interesting storyline.
Also the title is SO FITTING. There is so much deceit. There is so much backstabbing (literally and figuratively), and this book ends with a pretty big cliffhanger. Book 2 is gonna be MESSY with all these morally grey characters and I cannot wait!
All of this is laid against the backdrop of Celtic mythology. This was my first foray into Celtic mythology, so I had to do some research for some of the folklore that is in this world, but I otherwise really enjoyed it!
I'm excited for Book 2, and I think that since the author has set up the world, it will move a lot faster!
