I don't know why this book isn't more popular/ why more people aren't into this author. This is one of the best books I've read in my life. Every few years I re-read it, just because it's so good. The story is so well constructed and well told. I love the main character and I love how she grows up throughout the book. There are so many issues discussed throughout this story, mainly, the challenges of being a Black woman in a White community. This will always be a 5-star read for me.
