I know I was reading a YA, but it felt more middle grade in terms of the writing. The struggles the characters had definitely fit the YA category but it just felt a little armature at some points. I also felt like there was too much that was being crammed into this story that could have been removed or at least more fleshed out. I would have loved to read more about the other romances happening in the background, especially the one between
Verna and Wanda
. Also, I feel like the audiobook probably made this worse because the pinning and the whole being in love parts came across a lot more, for lack of a better word, gooey, and I felt like that wasn’t necessary when these two were only in a relationship for 3 months max.
