Alone by E.J. Noyes

"No, darling,” she agrees softly. “You’re not. I’m here, and you’ll never be alone.”

Wow, this book was a ride. It was so angsty that I actually cried a few times — I could really feel Celeste’s pain, her confusion, everything she was going through. It all felt so real to me. At the same time, I loved watching her grow. She definitely had to go through all of that to become the person she was meant to be by the end.

I’ll admit, I suspected Olivia’s “mission” pretty early on — she kind of slipped up at one point, so I thought the reveal wouldn’t hit me as hard when the truth finally came out… but damn, it still did! Somehow, it still caught me emotionally. And honestly, I think Celeste’s delusions made sense — they helped me understand how deeply she was struggling and gave more insight into her childhood and inner world.

One of the things I appreciated most, though, was how the author handled the theme of solicitude — that constant care and attention, which really stood out to me. I think I loved that even more than the development of the romantic relationship (although that was well done too, especially considering everything both characters were dealing with).

All in all, it was a really good book — maybe a bit heavier and more angsty than I usually go for, but still absolutely worth reading.
