I am bothered by how long it took my to read this because now that I have finished I am like AHHHHHH. I think I was distracted, and it took a minute to hook me but when it didn't I finished it in a few days. I really like the way that Carissa likes. Side note- I also REALLY like the font she uses!! This has a little bit of everything in it- golden retriever BF, enemies to lovers, vamp with a human, they both fall HARD for each other, a GREAT spicy scene with feelings, oh and all of the drama entailed in a tournament to the death while two factions are at war. This was just FANTASTIC!! The tempo was great. The buildup felt believable- we didn't jump right in. There were actions and sacrifices made towards each other that helped crumble their walls. The cast of characters was great. I had hunches about Vincent but DAMN not those kind of hunches! I love how this ended and legit can't wait to see how this unfolds with an HEA (fingers crossed).

Oraya has always known that she is prey living among predators. She is the human "daughter" of Vincent, the king of the Hiaj vampire faction. They have a plan for the future though for her to become powerful. She will enroll in the Kejari tournament which usually only has one winner. With her win, she will bind herself to Vincent and therefore have access to his power. That is the plan until the Kejari actually starts. Now she finds herself in a house full of vamps with one in particular reaching out about an alliance. Raihn. He is a Rishan and unlike any vampire Oraya has ever known. It's like he is clinging to his humanity while all the others she knows dropped it like a bad habit. She meets Raihn's BF, Mische who is also unlike any vamp she has ever met. These people can't be for real right? She can't really trust them right? But she finds herself doing just that after Raihn finds out about one of her secrets. Slowly but surely she comes around to recognizing how well they could be together- until they will have to kill each other. He makes her question everything she has ever known. He makes her not want to drop her humanity but hone it into a weapon. He makes her FEEL things she hasn't felt without loss. Mische ends up having to leave after she is severly injured and yet Oraya and Raihn are still working together, circling each other, seeing if they both feel the same for each other. Which of course they do, but what happens in the last trial when they have to be enemies. What happens when Oraya has to choose between her victory and his. She finds herself on the wrong side of that decision and now wondering if everything they had was real. She finds herself even more in the middle of this war then she ever thought possible trying to figure out what to do now.

UGH this book!! Again the build up between Oraya and Raihn was perfect. Watching them both lower their walls ever so slightly and recognizing that they had a lot in common was soo perfect. Their spice scene was everything I wanted it to be and more. I am in awe of the writing her and legit have no clue how they are going to get out of the situation they have found themselves in. I know they both love each other to the max but with what has happened will that be enough??
