2★ y’all are not gonna like this review
➸ I am so confused because apparently everyone loved this book while I struggled a lot to finish it. I’m so glad it’s over.
➸ Firstly, Gibsie carried this book. Thank god for him. I disliked the main characters a lot. I definitely sympathized with Shannon because of what she was going through but I honestly couldn’t stand her. It was really hard to not cringe at what she was saying every 5 minutes. She literally said “Well, I'm not like most girls,”. Major pick me vibes. This girl was always running away from Johnny for no reason (literally running). She locked herself in a bathroom because she didn’t want to talk to him. She refused to go inside his house with her brother and stayed in the car like a fucking child. I was constantly getting second hand embarrassed. On the other hand, Johnny annoyed me so much with that age thing. They had a 2 years age gap Jesus Christ, it’s not that deep. He had a huge problem with that for some reason but then dared to say "You come across as a lot older." yeah immediately no. He sounded like a creep. And they were constantly mentioning her height WE GET IT SHE’S SHORT!
➸ The plot? So incredibly boring!! I’m not a fan of this whole damsel in distress and knight in shining armor thing. I understand she went through a lot of trauma and didn’t really know how to stand up for herself but he was constantly saving her. CONSTANTLY. Every single time there was a problem he was the one rescuing her. She was portrayed as this young, vulnerable and weak girl that needed a guy to fight her battles for her. Extremely annoying and very wattpady.
➸ This book was unnecessarily long. 800 pages but it feels like nothing happened. The storyline was constantly repeating itself. I get that it was a slow burn but not even Mariana Zapata writes books that fucking long. I was so close to DNFed it but I refuse to give up on books so I just put up with it. It only got interesting in the last 50 pages.
➸ I wanted to rate this 1 star but I never did that before and kinda feel bad for it so I’ll settle for 2 stars. In conclusion, I won’t be reading the next book.
