Goldstein by Volker Kutscher
4.0
In the third Rath procedural, it is 1931, and Charlotte is chasing the survivor of a pair of juvenile delinquents who ave been robbing Berlin's department stores (and by extension, she's after the corrupt cop who killed one of them). Rath, redeemed by the events of the previous book, but not entirely trusted by the police force, has been assigned to trail an American gangster from Meyer Lansky's New York gang as he visits his dying grandfather and traditional Jewish family. The gangster, Goldstein, witnesses some fat, dumb Nazis harass an old man in the park, fatally breaks up the bullying, and realizes that his visit might have a productive sideline in Nazi elimination while he waits for the funeral, and Rath has to wrestle with the idea that this is not the worst way Goldstein could be spending his leisure time.
