Alone With You in the Ether by Olivie Blake
5.0

Olivie Blake wrote the worst book I tried to read this year (Atlas Six) and one of the best – this one. I think this is the book she was meant to write; her style fits this kind of cellularly close look into the characters. There are times when it was just too much loopy floral-y writing, but when you’re inside the story and the mind of these characters it’s intoxicating. I haven’t read this intimate of a story since Call Me By Your Name.
Regan and Arlo couldn’t be more different from each other – a failed art student with mental health issues and a boyfriend, and a theoretical mathematician who can’t connect with people – but they fall in love over a series of six conversations. Is it sustainable?
