It's a rare occasion for me to enjoy a sequel more than the first book, but that was definitely the case when it came to Bloodmarked. I absolutely adored this book and everything it had to offer. I couldn't put it down, dying to know what would happen next.
There were so many moments filled with adventure and anticipation that I never got bored by the plot or the pacing - despite how chunky the book is. It took me a little bit longer to read than most books, but I didn't struggle with understanding what was happening and as I reached the final pages, I didn't want it to end. The way I absolutely need the next book as soon as possible...
If you're not in the mood to sob your eyes out at poignant interactions and character development, then don't pick this up. However, if you're ready to leak a bit, you'll love every moment of this book. I found myself crying more often than I anticipated (especially since the first book didn't have that effect on me). I could have highlighted about 75% of the story just because of all the incredibly meaningful moments that transpired.
Bree's ever-changing relationship with Arthur (and Arthur's power) and her root magic was so significant. I'm so glad there was such an emphasis on this element. It helped me understand the magic systems so much more (they're some of the most creative I've read in fantasy since Shades of Magic) and I really fell in love with her strength and the way she accessed her emotional ties to her family and friends.
I need the next book like yesterday. The fact that I'm going to have to wait for what happens next is driving me a bit batty, but I might just have to reread both the first two books in the meantime. They're that good.
