Falling Embers by Catherine Cowles

slow-paced

3.0

I realized while reading this book that I absolutely love the whole firehouse/EMT setting. The choke hold it has on me when they have to go into a burning building or they got to the scene and realize it’s a friend or family member 😭 that was my favorite part of the book and where most of my rating comes from. We met Calder and Hadley in the first book. They have known each other since they were younger and got really close. Something happened and that kind of drove them apart. It’s a second chance in a way, so not my favorite trope . Calder is also a single dad of twin girls and the dynamic between Hadley and his girls was so precious. Just like the first book there is a little suspense to the story. A little more than halfway in it got super repetitive. The FMC continued to be reckless and it got very annoying. I also think the author had them get together too soon. I would have liked more angst and honestly groveling from the MMC. The suspense part was ridiculous and I got irritated with it especially towards the end. I’m sorry but if my phone is blowing up with hateful texts and emails I would be changing my stuff ASAP. The book was fine. I definitely liked the first one more.
