What a powerful story. How incredibly heart wrenching to not know if you will live, not know if your family is alive, and have a future full of unknowns. There was a point when Salva thought that the men that he was being taken by thought him weak, but he knew he was not. I enjoyed the duel timelines that meet up by the end. This story serves as such a powerful reminder to appreciate what you have and help people when you can.

I wish the audiobook had been read by Salva Dut. I loved getting to hear his short message at the end of the book. Dut’s organization, Water for South Sudan, is working on providing safe drinking water and toilet facilities to the people of South Sudan.
