Dashing Through the Snow by Mary Higgins Clark, Carol Higgins Clark

3.0

Let me start off by saying that if you picked this up looking for classic Mary Higgins Clark, you're going to be disappointed. I cannot speak for Carol Higgins Clark, as I haven't read any of her books (yet) that aren't one of these holiday-themed projects she's done with her mother, but this is far more cozy mystery than suspense or thriller.

What I liked about Dashing Through the Snow:
It knows exactly what it is - This book is goofy, just like the others that came before it in these holiday works. And furthermore, it never pretends to be otherwise. It's a lighthearted mystery to be solved, with over-the-top characters, perfect for reading around the holidays when you're looking for something in this genre that's easy and not too heavy.
Not as predictable as some would have you think - Yes, there are some elements that were predictable, but there was one twist around the halfway point of the book that I did *not* expect. I got on board pretty quickly and figured it out without much effort, but at the point it occurred, I wasn't expecting it. I couldn't say that for the (holiday) books that came before this one.
Pleasant outcome - Sure, the outcome wasn't a shock, but I liked that there was some redemption involved just a bit.

What I didn't care for:
A bit complicated - There were a lot of characters and a lot of crisscrossing story lines going on for such a short book. I felt like some of them ended up underdeveloped and that perhaps with an additional hundred pages or so, maybe would have felt less thrown together and more cohesive as a story.

Solid three stars for this holiday-special mother-daughter collaboration. It isn't winning any awards, but it was quick and amusing. All in all, one of the better books in the holiday sub-series these two authors have put out.
