Invisible Things by Mat Johnson

adventurous funny mysterious tense medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes
Wild! Not sure what the star rating will be yet. The quirky characters and satire and unique writing pulled me in, as well as the slight horror of the Invisible Things. So much was packed into this book that i had some trouble following and visualizing, especially the political campaigning. I would love to see this as a TV miniseries. It felt similar to feel in HBO's Made For Love (how it compares to the book I'm not sure). Overall I wanted to like the book more than I did, but am really interested in Mat Johnson's other writing.

This book will also always have the lovely memory of my first Silent Book Club experience at Cream & Amber on my 31st birthday.
