This was a mess. So many random plot points, magic rules, and flashback-type scenes that weren't set up in the previous books. Magic that worked sometimes and not others with no explanation. Characters that had completely different personalities than in previous books. The spice was very out-of-place and in situations that didn't make any sense for the characters. For example, the "we have only one day to do this super important thing or we will be doomed for eternity! But actually let's bang for a while instead cause we definitely have time for that!" scene was confoundingly stupid. The main battle and problem were super easily overcome in silly ways that had flimsy build-up. It was hard to care about any of it. Messy.
