Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
5.0
I really enjoyed this. It had such a broad scope and touched on so many difficult things but it still managed to keep its focus on the characters as people and their stories. I love the writing style that at first seems simple in the way it baldly states uncomfortable things that other writers might have 'artfully' hinted at or couched in subtle innuendo. It's refreshing how the author cuts through all the bullshit to get right to the heart of the matter - Half of a Yellow Sun is the same, despite being a completely different book in other ways. In fact I was very glad to have read Half of a Yellow Sun first because I felt like I had some basic historical background and context for Americanah.
