I definitely liked this ending more than most of the books in this series.

My only beef is with the religious themes. From series one it’s been clear that starclan was their version of heaven, but it never felt like it was being shoved down the readers throat.

However, towards the end of this series— especially in this book, it’s clear they’re pushing it. Highlighted in the mothwing and leafpool arguments. It’s in their conversations about starclan and how leafpool always worries about mothwings “lack of faith.” I hate feeling like religion is being shoved down my throat and knowing the audience for these books are middle-schoolers makes me worried they are being force-fed something they don’t need to be.

Other than that, this book was really well paced. The story felt clear and seeing it switch perspectives in real time from leafpool and brambleclaw was a nice change. Usually the changing perspectives in the other books were totally different journeys, but in this one they usually were watching the same events unfold just in different eyes.

I’m sad for leafpool about crowfeather and cinderpelt, but she definitely belongs in thunderclan as their medicine cat.

I’ve been worried about brambleclaw ever since he started trusting hawkfrost and listening to tigerstar in his dreams. i’m really happy with the ending and with brambleclaw’s decision to stay loyal to thunderclan/firestar over power. I was worried they were going to leave it as a cliffhanger, or have the clan resent brambleclaw before the truth came out. I’m really happy with the ending.

Also i’m just as delulu as firestar and believe greystripe will come back one day 🥲
