Ayoade on Top
by Richard Ayoade
OK, so what the hell did I read and why did I read it?
One is a mystery I will never get to the bottom of, but the other is an easy answer: this book is an extremely detailed... walkthrough of a lesser known Gwyneth Paltrow vehicle called A View from the Top. Or, it's sort of a review, but to an extent that has never been seen in your regular movie or book reviews. I mean, don't be surprised to read an in-depth analysis of an actor's microexpression! (I can't remember if anything like that is really covered... but it fits!)
The reason I gave this three stars instead of more is because I couldn't care less about this movie - I know, I know, why did you read it then? yadda yadda - and while the joke (?) of being obsessed by it is funny, and the writing is guaranteed Ayoade good stuff, I was still hoping for the final pages to mercifully appear.
It does speak for the book's success that I finished reading an in-depth, albeit comedic analysis of a movie I have zero plans on watching even out of curiosity, and nobody forced me or paid me to do this.
So, this book may or may not be down your alley? Give it a go and see what you think, is all I can say.
I am going to be checking out anything else Ayoade has written in this similar vein.
