boy oh boy was this PHENOMENAL. xaden is the new loml. violet is such a strong, formidable fmc. the disabling representation was sooo cool to read about, expecially since you almost never see a main character in an action packed novel have physical disability while still packing as much of a punch as everyone else. plus, the subtle nonbinary representation? sign me up.
yarros has created such a fantastic world. i saw someone describe this book as feeling "like it came straight out of the early 2010's" & that's the perfect way to describe it. so good, and just scratches some sort of nostalgic itch i didn't know i had.
devoured this in less than 24 hours, i'm not excited to have to wait months to hear more about violet, xaden, tairn, and andarna.
***SPOILERS AHEAD***
ALSO-i hated dain from the beginning, he's straight up the WORST, and i cannot wait to watch him get his ass handed to him next book. (and how did she not figure out he was reading her memories every time he touched her face like that?? i mean come on girlfriend, I thought you were the smartest one in your year???)
