Orbital by Samantha Harvey

5.0

And suddenly, I need to read Harveys entire portfolio of work.

From the very first page, this book blew me away. The concept is a simple one, there is a space station orbiting earth and 6 crew who explore the feeling of home and reflect on the earth itself. However, this book is anything but simple, it is a vast exploration of life as a human, what that means to be human and the ways in which we find joy - from slamming a car door to postcards.

Harvey explores ideas of being pulled in multiple directions and mirrors this throughout the book, she manages to nail the exact feelings of conflict within us all "it's brutal, inhuman, overwhelming, lonely, extraordinary and magnificent" - I mean COME ON?! (also, that's just one of about 100 quotes I could pull to show you just how great this book is).

I have so many questions surface when reading this and I can't keep rambling on, but please take my advice and read this book, you'll devour it in one sitting and be hungry for me (cheesy but true).
